In a bid to uplift her community, Hon. Mrs. Edith Nwosu, popularly called Ikuku Oma Nwangele, a proud native of Abba in Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo State, has generously disbursed a total of N600,000 to indigenes of the area. This philanthropic effort took center stage during the launch of the "Ikukuoma Empowerment Club" at an opening ceremony held on September 27th, 2023.
The Ikukuoma Empowerment Club, a brainchild of Hon. Edith Nwosu, aims to elevate the lives and prospects of the people of Nwangele LGA, fostering economic growth and development within the community.
Beneficiaries of this empowerment initiative were carefully selected from the 11 wards that make up the local government. Each recipient received a sum of N50,000 to boost their businesses, along with the distribution of essential items such as clothing and food to others in attendance.
At the heart of this empowerment event was Professor Vitalis Ajumbe a distinguished guest speaker, who inspired the recipients with words of wisdom. The Academic Don, further urged the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the funds, emphasizing how this financial support could significantly enhance their business endeavors.
Furthermore, a novel revolving scheme was unveiled during the event, offering women in the community access to a revolving loan fund. This empowering initiative will allow women to support one another with loans that circulate among themselves, effectively bolstering economic activities within Nwangele LGA. Key individuals were selected to oversee the administration of this scheme.
Nwosu, who previously ran as the Labour Party candidate in the 2023 House of Assembly election, remains committed to enhancing the well-being of her fellow citizens, particularly those in need. Her philanthropic endeavors extend to various foundations, including the "Healthcare Foundation for Children."
Before now, she has issued a fervent call to the government and all political representatives in Nwangele LGA, urging them to redouble their efforts in fulfilling their responsibilities to the people they serve. She has also drawn attention to the deteriorating condition of the AMA-Igbo General Hospital, once a symbol of healthcare excellence, which now stands as a glaring eyesore to the public. Nwosu's advocacy echoes the collective desire for positive change and progress within Nwangele Local Government Area.
